2025 Results

This year 60 beers participated in the judges competition, more than ever before. 8 judges were at work to judge the beers, and we also had a people’s favorite. New this year was the award for newcomer of the year, which went to the brewers who got the most votes in the people’s favorite among those participating for the first time.

Overview of results all years .

Newcomer of the year

The prize went to Andreas Solvik and Arvid Dybevoll, who participated with a kornøl a la Hornindal fermented with #23 Otterdal. They are from Markane , an area about 10 kilometers from Grodås. Markane has many brewers, but this is the first time anyone from there has participated in the festival.

3rd place, judges competition

It went to Nils Olaf Kyllo, an experienced traditional brewer from Stjørdal, who participated in the festival for the first time, with a stjørdalsøl made from his own malt with Idun Blå.

2nd place, judges competition

In second place came Idar Nygård from Hornindal, with a traditional kornøl fermented with his own kveik. Idar has been brewing since 1995 and has been to the festival several times, but this is the first time he’s won. Idar is otherwise known for organizing pre-festival gatherings in the old brewhouse he calls Gamlestova.

1st place judges competition

At the top came Neset Brewery, consisting of Kristoffer Lia and a brewer we unfortunately didn’t get the name of (tips welcome!). The beer was a maltøl brewed on Morgedalsvis, in Skafså in Telemark. The brewers took as their starting point the recipe from Terje and Halvor Bjåland from one of Lars Marius’s books, but also took the opportunity to (by their own account) “pump” Halvor and Terje the year they were demo brewers at the festival. It obviously paid off!

People’s favorite

Clear winner among the audience was Gunnar Skare from Ørsta, with a traditional kornøl a la Ørsta. He is the only kornøl brewer we know of who makes his own malt. He also has his own kveik. Gunnar hasn’t been every year, but still has a second place from 2017 under his belt. This year Gunnar took home the coveted rifle stock from GRS. When asked how he felt about it, he answered bluntly “ej he!”
