Lecture on Vossaøl by Sjur Rørlien
Sjur Rørlien while brewing in the traditional farmstead brewery at Voss.
We’re very pleased to have arranged a lecture on brewing Vossaøl with Sjur Rørlien. Sjur grew up right in the heart of the brewing center on Voss: Dyrvedalen, where almost all the farms brewed. And according to Sjur, farms that didn’t brew were “not quite socially accepted.”
Sjur learned to brew traditionally as a young man, using the yeast we know as #2 Rivenes. He also has a foot in the “other camp,” as his brother Frank Rørlien has been a brewer at Hansa.
He has been a teacher at Sogn Farm and Horticultural School, where he taught malting and traditional brewing, and has also held brewing courses for Kompetansenavet Vest. He is also the leader of Voss Beer Festival.
He is the CEO of a contracting company in Voss, and does some meat processing on the farm as well as running courses.
Sjur will be talking about “the use and development of malt and malting, juniper, hops and yeast, and brewing techniques.”
We know Sjur as a skilled lecturer, so we’re looking forward to this!
This talk will be in Norwegian.
