Lars Marius Garshol is a familiar figure to visitors to the festival, having been at every single festival.
(This talk will be in English.)
He will talk about the vikings and their beer, giving us a look at what the vikings drank, and how. The viking idea of paradise was a place where you could fight all day and drink all night, but beer was more than just a festive drink. It was a key part of all social and religious rituals, and also something that was used in diplomacy and intrigue.
We will hear some wild stories about how vikings lords got other lords drunk to trick them into making bad decisions, and how violating drinking ethics could get you killed.
We will also look at what archaeology and written sources can tell us about how viking beer was brewed.
Lars Marius will be selling copies of his books at the talk, if anyone is interested.
